AQUACULTURE is the controlled cultivation and harvest of aquatic plants and animals.
The Kansas Aquaculture Association had its beginning in 1964 when a group of interested fish farmers got together and formed the Kansas Commercial Fish growers Association. Their primary concerns were to encourage development of the aquaculture industry in Kansas and to eliminate unnecessary restrictions regarding private fish culture in the state.
Currently we are a diverse group of people that has a strong interest in some phase of aquaculture. Some of us produce food fish, some stocker fish for recreation, and some baitfish. Others are fee fishing operators, fish haulers, hobby farmers, researchers, and educators.
Our organizational plan revolves around a Board of Directors elected by the membership. We are incorporated in the State of Kansas and are affiliated with the North Central Regional Aquaculture Center.
